Swim All Year in Apache Pool!
by Don Hooser
Have you thought that some of your neighbors in Block House Creek subdivision are absolutely nuts for swimming in cold water in the winter? Well, maybe there are other indications we are nuts, but this ain’t it. If you saw people swimming in Apache Pool, they were swimming in warm water—with a temperature of at least 84 degrees.
It’s quite an amenity for a subdivision to have two beautiful swimming pools, quite different from each other, available for five dollars a year to residents. But it is a remarkable benefit for a subdivision to have a pool like Apache that stays heated throughout the fall, winter, and spring! And this is not a postage stamp-size pool. It is a junior Olympic size-pool with six lanes for lap swimming plus a wading area.
And this is not a “swim at your own risk” pool. Block House Creek has a contract with the YMCA to provide certified life guards. They are not only certified in life saving, but also in Red Cross first aid, administering oxygen, and in AED—automatic early defibrillator.
Both Apache and Tumlinson Pools were recently upgraded functionally and enhanced aesthetically. This past fall, new equipment and piping were installed at Apache for the accurate and consistent regulation of the chemicals to insure safe, clean water.
Apache has fairly large restrooms with showers. When the weather is cold, the only tough part of a swim is when you get out of warm water. But hey, you only have to endure a 15-second dash before you are enjoying a hot shower! And then you’ll feel like a million dollars!
Swimming, water aerobics, and any kind of playing and exercising in the water are all wonderful exercises. This article lacks the space to go into all their benefits, but they are a great way to get and stay in shape. And Apache is not crowded in the winter.
So… if you like to swim, why not swim all year??
